21st TASS Patch

Many of the FAC units used Snoopy on his dog house as their "unofficial" logo. This one is the 21st TASS. While Smilar to the 20th TASS Prairie Fire Patch (and later THE 20th TASS Patch) there are some differences. This is a copy of a patch at the FACM.

The original Nail patch was created in 1966 by Walt Disney Productions. It differed from the Night patch in that the background was sky blue. When the 23d undertook night missions over the Ho Chi Minh Trail they wanted a patch to match their dyed black K-2B flight suits, and their Nail Night Patch was born. In about 1970 the Squadron dropped the blue patch in favor of the Black patch which then became the only patch.

The original Nail patch was created in 1966 by Walt Disney Productions. Jack Taylor sent Walt Disney a description of the Nail Mission and Disney ssent back art work that was made into a patch. It features Jimney Cricket, hanging from a purple umbrella, seeing the enemy below and calling their position on a hand held radio. Later the background was changed to Black for use on night missions and that "Black: patch was adopted as the "only" patch around 1970.

This is a repro of the Khmer Blood Chit that was presented to Ned Helm and Rick Scaling in August 1973 by the pilots of the Scorpion Squadron at Phnom Penh. All Rustics were then allowed to wear the patch on their party suits.
